Introduction
Enterprises of all sizes act nowadays in a dynamic and globally
oriented environment, whether they deal with production or if they
offer services. Industrial production processes are becoming more
and more similar. Customers expect the same high-quality standards
of products and services, regardless of the continent they are in.
However, products with superior quality and competitive prices can
only be offered by enterprises that have highly qualified human
resources available. Even more important is the factor of HR in
the service field, which is the home of many small and medium size
enterprises
The working environment is continually undergoing changing processes.
Technology, especially information technology, is developing rapidly
and has a great effect on the global economy. New occupation profiles
appear and existing services face a permanently changing process,
even in the craft sector. Companies have to compete more and more
in the global market whether they are big or small. To be successful,
they need human resources that are able to deal with this new situation
and even better, to take advantage of it. A successful enterprise
can answer this challenge with different strategies. Some possible
responses to tackle the challenge are to minimize the hierarchies,
decentralize the tasks, or delegate more responsibility to the working
level. Another strategy is to concentrate on the core business and
no longer manufacture the entire product components within the company,
which can be a chance for small and medium enterprises to take over
a part of the value chain. Instead, companies will produce only
goods that competitors cannot fabricate better. As a result of these
strategies, companies will decide to outsource some of their departments.
In a situation where technology, products and services become more
and more virtual for example as software products, the latest technological
developments are quickly available and transferable to any place
on the globe. A strategic and significant advantage for companies
is human resources. It is the staff that handle all the gathered
and available information and convert this into valuable products.
These products would have the necessary quality to find the customers
who are willing to pay the calculated and profitable prices for
it. Service is a point that becomes more and more important in an
environment in which the products have become similar and interchangeable.
